New Red Sox charity plate for CT scholarships

On Friday morning (March 8), Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman are expected to join representatives from the Boston Red Sox and other state and local officials at a news conference to announce the details of a Red Sox charity license plate program.

The program will be run through the Red Sox Foundation and help fund a soon-to-be-formed scholarship program for Connecticut public high school students who demonstrate academic talent, financial need and a commitment to community service.

The announcement is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Legislative Office Building, Room 2D at 300 Capitol Ave. in Hartford.

According to the Red Sox Foundation site, Connecticut law requires 400 paid orders before the new CT Red Sox plate can go into production.

The total cost of the Red Sox charitable plate is $115, of which $65 goes to the state’s DMV to cover plate production costs, and $50 goes to the Red Sox Foundation to raise funds for academic scholarship programs in Connecticut.

The Foundation states that when you switch to a Red Sox charity license plate, your current number is transferred to the new plate, even if you have a vanity or low number plate.
