Woman in Columbia crash charged with DUI

police-cruiserA 45 year old Lebanon woman was charged with driving while under the influence after hitting a parked vehicle on Hennequin Road in Columbia Thursday (July 14), state police said.

A 1970 Ford owned by Vernon Lanou of 42 Hog Hill Road in East Hampton, was parked in the roadway blocking the southbound lane of travel, police said.

The vehicle was towing a 2007 Econ trailer.

Lori Gibbons, 45, of 33 Leonard Bridge Road, Lebanon, was trav­eling southbound on Hennequin Road in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and struck Lanou’s vehi­cle in the rear.

Gibbons, police said, had her 8 year old son Lloyd Gibbons in the car with her at the time of the crash, reported at 4:38 p.m.

Lloyd Gibbons, was transported by EMS to Windham Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Lori Gibbon’s Jeep Grand Cherokee had damage on its front end and was towed to Northeast Auto.

Lanou’s vehicle did not have damage, but there was damage to the trailer’s rear bumper.

Town of Columbia to hold property sale for unpaid taxes

The Board of Selectmen had scheduled a termination hearing Tuesday (April 10) at a special meeting, but it was cancelled at the last minute. When asked why, Columbia First Selectmen Carmen Vance said “there was another incident,” and declined to provide details.

A tax sale, at which properties being sold for unpaid back taxes will be auctioned, will be held beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Yeomans Hall (part of Columbia Town Hall building).
