Voters say ‘no’ to employee pay hikes

In a paper ballot vote, it was determined all non-seasonal municipal employees will not receive a 2-percent pay raise this fiscal year.
During the annual town meeting Tuesday night, the motion to use funds left over from fiscal year 2009 to fund the raise was denied with 39 votes against it and 14 votes in favor.

Columbia to get federal security funds

The state has awarded $1.2 million in federal stimulus grants to 43 communities - including some in the Windham area - for public safety and crime prevention needs, Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced Monday.
